I used to dream of those days when people got attracted to the ideas of Gandhi and protested against the British with non violence as the only weapon in their hands. In a nation where the impossible becomes possible, the voice of a common man aged in 70s has brought all Indians together and that too for a great cause "India Against Corruption" in a non violent way. Its the dream of all Indians to see a corruption free nation and this man has brought all such people with Jan Lokpal bill.

Today myself and Vins registered our support to them in IAC Chennai center at Adayar. While starting from home, we expected only very few people to be there in the early morning. But to our surprise, there were thousands of people of all ages and different classes of society standing in queues for registration and rendering their support and send positive waves to the people on fast for the 6th day. People were full of all enthusiasm in supporting Anna Hazare and co. The one thing I liked about the organizers is they make sure it a non violence protest so far and controlled the mob really well. I wish they will keep it peaceful till the end. Almost everyone in the crowd are speaking about black money and the corruption in crores and they hope on Jan Lokpal to bring down corruption and the black money. I even hear people saying the government officers and the ministers will be in check and hence there will not be any corruption and bla blas. Though I also feel jan lokpal will bring the change to some extent, it alone cannot be the solution for corruption and black money as most people believe. I can feel the spark in all to make our nation ideal. Corruption Free India is the target to all.

Honestly if I think, We people always feel light in pointing others for the mistakes and projecting the likes of Raja and kalmadi and the govt officers are only the culprit face of the nation. Will the nation become corruption free with these guys changed good or punished or hanged which ever the case? How many of us, the so called non government officers and ministers, who are only true to the nation pay our tax properly and not bringing any loss to the nation??

I remember in my team of 20, almost all produced fake rent forms every year for HRA to get tax exemption. Honestly 7 out 10 on that day are from own house but still produced the fake rental slip for 9 K per month. It means only because of our team, money in thousands becomes black every month. To many standing behind the yellow line in the road for the last 10 seconds in red signal is the toughest task to be done and they cant afford to wait those last 5 seconds. Dont they are the culprits encouraging the corruption near traffic signals if they get caught by the traffic constables. In many cases corruption is because of people who wants the extra privilege and those are to find the way to escape from the legal actions for their mistakes. Which traffic constable asks money when you are having helmets, driving in normal speed, travelling one or two and particularly with all the documents. How many times the land or building properties are registered with original value? To avoid the needed registration papers, most times land are estimated low and there by making money black. How many times we ever feel bad for having AC in car in long drive cool climate and there by wasting the national resource unnecessarily. How many of us ever feel when the water tap is leaking? So all of us are doing harm to the nation and society and there by bringing loss to the nation which can also be a corruption. So corruption is every where and with everyone in different forms and almost all holds responsible for the black money in one or the other way.

Raja and co are just the scapegoats for the mistakes of the entire nation.

If really an ideal nation is the dream, the change should be from each and every one along with the implementation of strict laws/body against corruption and blackmoney like Lokpal. I wish the enthusiasm which is spread across the nation this time makes people understand their duties and responsibilities. It is also the duty of people who understand the process to make atleast one to think and understand the need of the change, the nation is expecting from them.

I dream the day where the proper tax payers are not looked odd, people who follow the rules and regulations are not the idiots and each and every one have some time to think about the good for others and the nation.

Ride in ECR..

Today morning when i got up my bed and thought about the day I felt bored and thought of travelling somewhere around Chennai. As most of my friend have gone to their native places, I was not sure how the travel would be, a lonely drive is always tough in any case. But I felt there must be something interesting and decided to start by afternoon. Among the list of places around Chennai, I felt Mamallapuram through ECR should be the place to visit and read about various places around Mamallapuram before leaving home. By 2.30 pm I started from my home carrying a water bottle in my bag and a camera. While leaving my home itself I was very sure that the trip would be an interesting and joyful one as it was actually. Within 20 minutes I hit the ECR. The ride in sea breeze was awesome. It was very wonderful and I was very thrilled to enjoy the rest in my path. The traffic was bit worry till Mayajaal because of Vinayagar Chathurthi Oorvalam and after that I was able to drive bit freely hitting 80 Km/H. After crossing the city, I had a tender coconut and faced a board saying 39 KMs to reach Mamallapuram. After crossing Muttukkadu Boat house, I wanted enjoying the scenary than racing so was steadily riding in 50Km/H.

I was attracted by a solitary palm tree on the banks of back water lake. The path from road to that place was very dirty and tough but I decided to spend sometime there. It was really a nice place. On the other bank of the lake there was a resort and the view from my side was great. I tried capturing that but to my camera's eye it didnt look nice. Then welcomed by the hands of silver oaks on both sides of the road. I thought of spending sometime there but couldnt as they were all occupied by diffent groups of people all consuming liquor and all. So saying bad luck to me, I continued my ride and halted in a Tourism dept run Drive-Inn. I had some cool drinks and there was few stone benches for enjoying the sea breeze and an wonderful scenary of Oak trees and sea in the background. After riding sometime I was invited by the Welcome board of Tiger Caves. Wow! what a place it is! Green everywhere with huge rock caves here and there and some wonderful Rock sculptures attracting eyes. Among the rock sculptures, I found two are very cute and great skilled work. The first one is a Siva temple of a single rock. It was a huge rock carved skillfully to three rooms and in the middle there is a Lingam. There was a board saying to not take the photograph of that siva lingam. The next one is bit more interesting. A huge rock resembling a tiger in elevation but in the rear, it was carved have many tiger heads. The another most important thing about the place is you cant just leave the place without saying about sound of sea waves colliding the rocks. Unbelievable sight! Green everywhere but when i stepped in further, there was a beach. I spent time long time sitting in the green grass listening the waves. Now and then Minas were making sound and that all made me feel heaven. I found the tiger caves is not having a proper bus stop and hence there is not much croud..Infact no crowd was very good for me to enjoy the place. I left the place by 6 pm and reached Mamallapuram finally :) As it was getting darker I was not able enjoy the sculpures fully but made an oath to come back soon exclusively to Mamallapuram. I then sat in the beach for sometime eating lays, Masala Kaju and Sprite.
I finally left Mamallapuram beach by 7 and reached home by 9pm after having dinner in OMR Nallas Appakadai. It was really wonderful. I never felt tired of riding bike for the total of 118 Kms up and down. It was full of enjoyment. It is really a very happy and unforgettable trip than I assumed how it would be at the beginning of the trip. Oh now only I am feeling pain in my palm and fingers. Some poto shots are here

InPlaceEditor handling ActiveRecord validations in Rails

Last week I was facing an issue with Ajax InPlaceEditor in my Ruby On Rails application. The editor is very simple and when a page item is updated, the corresponding table is updated and the new value is updated on rendering. In my application i need to provide the user, an option to update his email id. Part of my controller

if @user.update_attributes(params[:name] => params[:value])
render :text => CGI::escapeHTML(@user.send(params[:name]).to_s)

It updates the database and renders the latest updated value if the active record validations are satisfied and the table is updated. I was worried about the else part i.e if the validations are failed, i should not update the table and the error message should be displayed with the original value retained in the page. So in this case i need to update two values, the original field value should be retained and the error value should be updated. In my controller i was having,

else
err_message = first_error(@user.errors)
render :update do |page|
page.replace_html params[:field_id].to_s, prev_value
page['notification_message'].hide
page.replace_html 'notification_message', :partial => 'shared/error', :object => err_message

I was shocked seeing some my field got updated with some chunk jvascript. I read InPlaceEditor docs and found that the field will get updated with the value returned from the controller. So in my case it takes my second page.replace_html as the returned value and updated the field. I googled and found many are having this issue but no one has mentioned any solution for this. Then I found that the script.aculo.us Ajax.InPlaceEditor is only designed to update one page field--the one that was edited. After going through the code, I realized what was happening was that both of my replace_html calls were actually working, but as part of what Ajax.InPlaceEditor does it returns the final value of the render call, and sticks it into the field that was edited. This is just the default behavior, as it assumes you only want to update that one field.

Looking into the Ajax.InPlaceEditor code,(relevant lines in bold):

handleFormSubmission: function(e) {
var form = this._form;
var value = $F(this._controls.editor);
this.prepareSubmission();
var params = this.options.callback(form, value) || '';
if (Object.isString(params))
params = params.toQueryParams();
params.editorId = this.element.id;
if (this.options.htmlResponse) {
var options = Object.extend({ evalScripts: true }, this.options.ajaxOptions);
Object.extend(options, {
parameters: params,
onComplete: this._boundWrapperHandler,
onFailure: this._boundFailureHandler
});
new Ajax.Updater({ success: this.element }, this.url, options);
} else {
var options = Object.extend({ method: 'get' }, this.options.ajaxOptions);
Object.extend(options, {
parameters: params,
onComplete: this._boundWrapperHandler,
onFailure: this._boundFailureHandler
});
new Ajax.Request(this.url, options);
}
if (e) Event.stop(e);
}

What was happening was that it was creating a new Ajax.Updater, which is meant to update a single element with the return value from the url it calls, which turned out to be that chunk of Javascript above when I used the render :update block. The Javascript was being eval'd correctly, and updating both my fields, but then Ajax.Updater was re-updating the 1st field with the result of the render block, which was that chunk of Javascript.
So both of my replace_html in render update are actually working and the problem is only with the editors updater. So I called a new request to reload after that updater. so my modified script looks like

if (this.options.htmlResponse) {
var options = Object.extend({ evalScripts: true }, this.options.ajaxOptions);
Object.extend(options, {
parameters: params,
onComplete: this._boundWrapperHandler,
onFailure: this._boundFailureHandler
});
new Ajax.Updater({ success: this.element }, this.url, options);
new Ajax.Request(this.url, options);
} else {
var options = Object.extend({ method: 'get' }, this.options.ajaxOptions);
Object.extend(options, {

Now everything works great:) Hope this will be useful if you are facing similar problem with InPlaceEditor

Recently i read a mail titled "நீ எனக்கு வேண்டாமடி". So thought of writing why the guy should not leave his love...given here few lines of that

Changing login screen in Ubuntu

One of my friends had a new theme installed in his Ubuntu system but the login screen was that of the default theme. He thought changing the login screen is a big task. It is very simple as follows

The desktop appearance properties window should be linked or copied to login window.

sudo cp /usr/share/applications/gnome-appearance-properties.desktop /usr/share/gdm/autostart/LoginWindow.

Instead of copying you can give links too.

When the login screen is prompted again, the background appearance changing window will also be popped out and with that you can change your login screen to your theme login screen. If there is no separate login screen you can use your desktop screen itself. Now you can see your login screen matches your newly installed theme.

After logging in do unlink so that the background changing window wont prompt again along with the login screen.

sudo unlink /usr/share/gdm/autostart/LoginWindow/gnome-appearance-properties.desktop

After surfing the net for reviews about various laptop products, i decided to buy a hp machine and the model that suits my needs well is hp dv4-2106TX. Its configuration reads Intel Corei3 330, 14.1” Colour TFT, 3 GB RAM , 512 MB graphics, 320 GB HDD, Finger Print Reader, 8X DVD Writer, Windows 7 Home Premium. So i almost finalised the model before seeing it in the show room itself. When i was seeing the model live i was very happy for its cool look, less weight and nice metallic black color. Within seconds i decided to buy that model at my first sight itself. The other feature that is worth of mentioning is the latest feature called hp Quickweb coming with latest hp machines. The information about this Quickweb technology read in hp site is
QuickWeb is an innovative bit of technology that lets you access the web in seconds, even when your notebook is shut down. Because HP QuickWeb resides outside your notebook’s operating system, there’s no need to wait minutes for your system to boot. Simply push the HP QuickWeb button on your HP Business Notebook PC, and in less than 20 seconds1 you’ll
have a fast connection to the Internet and access to websites and content you normally would through your regular browser. Shutting down your notebook is just as easy: either press the power button, or simply close the application—
and your notebook powers off in as little as five seconds.
Forgot to mention..I am blogging from hp Quickweb only:)
So on the whole, i love this laptop more and i should handle it properly (which i think is very tough considering the state of my old laptop:) Lets hope the best:) )

Republic Day Celebrations..

Today, on the 60th year of celebrating Indian Republic, one of my dreams came true when i was standing straight for the national anthem in the state Republic day celebrations parade at Kamarajar Salai, Chennai. I was dreaming this day ever since i attended the district level Republic day celebrations headed by our District Collector Jeevarathinam I.A.S., at the Police Race Course ground, Dindigul, 10 years back. Today, Myself and Vinodh reached the Kamarajar Salai near Mahatma Gandhi statue at 7.30 a.m itself and were waiting for the function to commence. The secretariat officials, Tamil Nadu State Governor Surjit Singh Barnala, CM Dr M Karunanithi and other ministers were coming one by one. The National flag was hoisted by our State Governor exactly at 8 am and immediately National anthem was played followed by the Quick March by Army, Navy, Air force soldiers followed by the Tamil Nadu Police, Fire men and various other police wings. Following the police it was N.C.C., guys who were marching with passion and discipline followed by the decorated vehicles representing the achievements of the Nation and the central and state people welfare schemes. A great moment indeed!
Photos taken with my mobile cam are here. While returning home, i was saying Vinodh some of my Republic day memories.

During my 8th standard, i was a cadet in our school N.C.C., Our School always participate in the Independence day and Republic Day celebration parades every year and that year we were practicing hard for the republic day parade from a week before the day. Every day, practice drills would be from 6 to 7.30 in the morning, at the police race course ground. Teams from Dindigul police, Striking force, Home guard, fire service and the representation from Dindigul NCC i.e., 14(TN) battalion NCC represented by our school MSPSM Hr sec School and St Mary's Hr Sec School. The practice parades were organized and headed by our district DSP Rajendran(He was later charged in Sivakasi Jayalakshmi case). It was the first time i was going to take part in the Republic day parade and i was eagerly waiting for the day after all the hard practice drills.

Finally on 26th January, we assembled at Race Course Ground early morning and our national flag was hoisted by our collector Jeevarathinam I.A.S.,exactly at 8 am followed by the march fast of various teams from different police wings and N.C.C.,. Every team marching has to salute turning to the right towards our collector and the Police SP Subramanian I.P.S., who were there to accept our respect to the flag and the Nation. It was a big ground and we have to march from right to left of the post and have to salute the flag for 24 steps(12 steps right of the flag post and 12 steps left). We were marching towards the post perfectly in a well disciplined manner and when heard the command '14 (TN) Battalion N.C.C., "Salute"', we saluted the flag at once. The moment, saluting the flag gave me an unusual special feeling and i felt that for the rest of the march. I knew that it was not because of over excitement or fear of marching. After competing the march fast, i thought the special feeling must be the satisfaction for getting an opportunity to participate in that function and doing it well. Almost all guys felt a similar feeling.

I attended the independence day and republic day parades next year. At that time also i felt the same special feeling while saluting the flag and i thought, in addition to the satisfaction, it must be the gratitude to my nation and the society for what has given to me. I was given good education, healthy environment, safe living, good social status etc., when many others were just dreaming of those things. But still i was missing some reasons behind that special feeling which i understood only during my college days, it was the voice of the nation and the society expecting to return back at least a bit of what i had received from it so far. I got good education, food, social status and everything from it and i must do something back to the society because not many are getting all these.

Thanks to all the discussions with my friends Ashok, Vinodh, Sabari or Bala in hostel days who all explained ideas on communism, democracy, helping others, religions in India, people's living conditions etc., in their own terms. Some others said giving education, food etc are the governments responsibilities and there is no need of showing any gratitude to the nation or the society as it has done only its task. There must be poor in the nation so that the tasks like cleaning toilets, sweeping etc can be done was one of the comments from a so called brilliant guy in the class. But clearly i understood that the special feeling must be the satisfaction, gratitude towards the Nation and the expectation of the society to return back at least a bit of what i had received. Wish the coming days allow me to work for that special feeling! Wish you all a wonderful Republic Day!

Anbu karangal visit

Today when i got up, i thought of doing something useful and decided to visit Anbu karangal, an orphanage for children and aged people. It is a home of 87 school children studying in different classes from L.K.G to tenth standard and 40 aged people. When I reached the home, I was welcomed with smile by a grandma and the loud voices of the kids studying in their study hall. It was their morning study hour. I was chatting with Mrs. Lakshmi, the founder of this home on the plans and need of the home for sometime. She said the daily routine and about children's education. Most of the kids are studying in the nearby Govt elementary school and others are in a private english medium school based on their interests. I felt a new world around me that made to sponsor education for a kid for one year and today's lunch for all inmates of the home. Suddenly,Sai Archana studying 3rd standard came to lakshmi to report her about a boy who was
sleeping in the study hour :). Archana is one of the kids doing good in education and is given an opportunity to learn carnatic music also. I asked her the name and asked her interests. She replied and asked so many questions to me from her GK book. I smiled for not knowing the answer. At the end, she accepted me as her friend and advised me to concentrate on GK (otherwise i will fail in GK):)

At 12.30 pm, children assembled at the hall for lunch. They started their prayer thanking Lord Krishna and Sai Ram for the days food. Then they prayed for good health and wealth to me and my friends and relatives and my surroundings. I dont know whether the prayer for me from those kids reached the ears of Lord krishna but it reached me and made feel happy and satisfied for what i had done. I was asked to serve the food to the children and aged people. Kids were busy eating and the aged people thanked and blessed me and asked to visit them often. I ate food with them there itself and left the home with tummy and hearts full :)

Photos taken using my mobile camera are here

National Language of India - Hindi?

Last week me and vins had a discussion on the languages in India. We were discussing about dravidian parties linguistic policies and we both felt that dravidian parties had done great in preserving the regional languages from hindi to a greater extent. While discussing, I mentioned that Hindi as the national language and it should be learnt in addition to Regional languanges. He opposed me saying hindi alone is not a national language and said there were 18 national languages. Since I have been under the impression that Hindi is the national language of India, I told him that he should learn civics again and all. I told that there are 18 constitutional language and official languages English and Hindi. But he was very strong in his stand saying 18 national languages and that made to me to google on this.

I found that we both were wrong! India does not have a national language. There is no article referring the National language in the Indian Constitution. English and Hindi are the official languages and the regional languages can be used if the official communication is within the regions. I spent 22 years thinking Hindi as the National Language of India!! very bad :(. An interesting definition on National Language - A Language that symbolizes the people of the nation, culture and history. In India every language defines the life of the people, history and culture and hence all languages in India are the National Languages of India.

I felt ashamed for not knowing this for years and hope you too feel the same reading this :). My tenth standard Civics master must be responsible for not letting me know this :)You too started blaming your school teachers..huh?

்

Convocation Day

YAA..HOOOoo...!! I am a Degree Holder now!! Yesterday was my convocation day for my bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Engineering at Thiagarajar College of Engineering. Our convocation session was at 4.30 pm but I went to college in the morning itself to spend time with friends. We were all excited about getting the degree and we shared our holiday experiences. Took photos wearing the graduation robe.The function started at 4.30 at K.M., auditorium. We all there wearing the graduation robe and with lots of excitement. Dr. Ramadorai, CEO & MD of TCS was the chief guest of the session. It started with the Prayer followed by welcome address by our Principal and our college correspondent addressed the gathering. Then Dr.Ramadorai spoke on the corporates expectations from the young graduates. He stressed the importance of continual learning and creative thinking. Then students were given the degree certificates. At the end of the function, the new graduates took the graduation oath. Group photos were then taken and dinner was provided. On the night we went to Dhasavatharam film. The film was nice and once again Kamal showed his stature.

We reached his home by 11.30pm and had dinner at mid night. Next morning we started from home by 5.30 am to Babanasam and spent more than two hours there. We were accompanied by a Babanasam guy and he took to a place very close to dam shutters where we were not even able to swim against the water flow. It was really a wonderful experience. Then we went to Karaiyar and then visited Pana Theertham by travelling in a boat from karaiyar where the Tamirabarani river reaches the plains for the first time from mountains. Then we visited Agasthiar falls and returned back Nellai on that evening. Then me, Sairam along with Chennappan went to our friend Jaya's home. Jaya served us snacks. Her parents were more friendly and we had a nice chat with them.
On the next day we visited Nellaiappar temple and krishnapuram temple. The trip was really wonderful and we all enjoyed a lot.
One thing I cant forget at anytime is the way we spent days at chenni's home. We felt like we were staying at our home. We ate well there:-). His parents and grand father all took special care on each of us and we must thank them for making the days memorable diamond days with their love and care.
Click here for photos

Bye Bye TCE

My golden days at our college,TCE came to an end on 24th Apr, 2008. On 24th we had our project viva-voice and with that almost everything with our college life except the degree convocation came to an end. Though I am happy to step-in the corporate life soon, I still am feeling for the fact that I'll be missing my college environment, class rooms, lectures, my friends, kidding at others and those small fights. In college i got the opportunity to attend various tech talks by our college alumni Joe Steeve, AnanthShrinivas, Stylesen and got ideas from them.

TCE is from where I got to learn a lot right from the engineering basics to programming, systems architecture, Free and Open Source Software etc., made many friends, got inspirational seniors like Praveen, Subramani, Senthil kumaran Muthusivam & many friendly juniors...I don't know with how many will I have contact after college life. Its really painful to think about it. But we have to move forward in life. I hope I never lose the contact with my loved ones. There are many many things I wanted to write about and that would increase the post size and hence i will end it here saying Bye Bye TCE..Surely will miss you a lot

Amicizia'08--celebrating friendship..!

We are celebrating our hostel final years day Amicizia'08 on 5th and 6th this month. We are celebrating the final year's day for the first time in our hostel and it is really enjoyable. Various contests are conducted among the final years and the highlight s the dance show under lights on saturday night. Many of our final year students danced and the dance by Habib of civil department attracted all. He danced like all the tamil heroes right from Shivaji, MGR to Rajini, Kamal, Bagyaraj and vijay, Ajith. It was really a wonderful performance.
In that show I danced for the first time on the stage. I was sitting and enjoying the show. Suddenly our General Rep Navin announced my name as the next dancer going to dance. They played songs from 23rd pulikesi and Aaru films. I moved here and there and tried putting some steps. I really enjoyed that experience. It was a sweet moment to be remembered for long time.
On sunday morning i was the judge for dumb charades. It was jolly to see friends acting on the stage. In the last few days i found many things going wrong in my way and this break really helped me to forget those things:-)

LIVESTRONG...!!!

Today I had a chat with one of my friends about various topics. Suddenly I found a new LIVE STRONG band in his wrist and i casually asked him the story behind it. To my surprise, He said it as the fashion created by star Vijay. I was shocked to hear this and some other friends there were also had the same idea. It was really a comedy to see those people justifying their words. Then after heard the reason from me, we all smiled at each other and left the place. Our college's last internal test day was thus become a memorable one.
The actual story behind it is-- was launched as a fund raising item for Lance Armstrong's, the tour de france champion for 5 successive years, Cancer foundation. Its purpose is to create awareness about cancer among people. It was introduced when Armstrong was struggling with testicular cancer by his fans to show their support to their hero. After recovering from the cancer disease he became the champion of tour de france breaking many previous records. He then started the foundation for cancer patients and used the LIVE STRONG bands to create the awareness about cancer disease.
A LIVE STRONG wrist band is here

eventful day@tce..!

Today was one of the most enjoyable days at my college. Our staff advisor Mr. Shivakumar read the annual report of our association. After that Prizes were distributed to all the winners of various events organized by CSEA. Now i am no longer a General Secretary and at this time I would like to thank all the final years who gave me this wonderful opportunity to lead the association and supported me in all the hurdles during this period. It was a great experience to organize various events for juniors and TecUthsav'08 along with my friends. We enjoyed as well as learnt a lot while organizing such events. I also like to thank another GS SaiKrishna and treasurer VinodhKumar for making my path easier these days. I never faced any misunderstanding problems with them and I feel it was great to work with these guys.
Another important thing happened today was we went college wearing our batch dresses. We enjoyed the well taking photos, cutting cakes at canteen, written scribbles in other's shirts and finally trear at Aarthy Drive Inn Restaurant by BalajiShrinivas. We had great fun there..finally ended the day by taking potos with Balaji's mom and das @ aarthy..really a wonderful day.potos here..

A trip to Ooty!

It's been completely busy days for the past two months for us. We,the final years', were busy with the tecuthsav and final-year project works. Last week we arranged an industrial visit to Ooty and Coimbatore.it was a memorable journey with my friends leaving colorful memories. We started our trip from madurai to coimbatore on 3rd march early morning by train and then to ooty by bus.
A journey through this endless stretch of road with trees on both side and a brownish hue everywhere is unforgettable. The trees were like kissing the blue skies. After reaching ooty we had a visit to BSNL office and then we visited the ooty botanical garden.Botanical garden is one of the most popular picnic spots in Ooty. It has over 2000 species of plants and trees from all over the world. With nurseries, green houses, ponds, walks and terraces informally laid around, it spreads to around 50 acres of land. I had great time with my friends there. We took potos there--recorded one of the sweetest moments:-).
We stayed in Ooty youth hostel. We played a game there continued the full night. Next morning we went to pykkara falls. It's a very nice spot everyone should visit in ooty.water falls surrounded by green trees and rocky mountains. The road to pykara is surrounded by tall trees and rocky mountains. The climate was enjoyable, a typical climate i love the most.
Then we came down to plains via kothagiri. We found tea estates on both sides of the road.lovely sight!
In coimbatore we visited the CTS campus. They gave a lecture on the Project Management. Then we returned back madurai by train...It was a great trip with my friends leaving everlasting memories. potos are here

TecUthsav'08 -- a success!!

TecUthsav'08 a national level technical festival organized in our college from 13th february to 17th february was a grand success with students from different colleges took part in it. Participants really enjoyed all the events and showcased their technical and managerial skills. The contests like car modeling, a 5-stage event called Lord of the ring, Biz-blitz a bussiness contest were some of the top hits of our tecuthsav'08. All the events conducted by our department were innovative and gave participants a real chance to expose their talents. Our college TCE is always famous for its hospitality and this was proved once again by our hospitality team.
As a General Secretary of our department(CSE)student's association I would like to thank all the event co-ordinators who really did a frantastic job. All the events were mind blowing and the participants will never forget these events. They were well planned and well executed. I would like to thank all the final years and third year students who made organising such a big event very simple.
Apart from few issues in oranising, this first edition of TecUthsav was a real success and I believe our TecUthsav will attract more participants from all over the country in the coming years.

End of Golden Boys' Era..!

Indian Cricket team once again proved themselves as a better touring side in the world cricket completing a eventful series against Australia. Though the series results read 2-1 loss to India, the way India played was exceptional. Indians outplayed Aussies in many aspects of the game.No other team had done this or even strained Australia for a victory. In the last few years Indians did well in all parts of the world Australia, Westindies ,Southafrica, England and Pakistan. Managed either a win or draw in most of these matches. Indians can say they are marching towards No 1 slot. Cheers India!!

At the same time India should worry about losing 4 or 5 top players soon. This tour may be the last australia tour for the Golden Boys of Indian Cricket-Sachin,Kumble,Dravid and Gnaguly who all had done lot to Indian cricket and the world cricket. Though we are having a pool of youngsters in the bench,how they would overcome the lose of these greats is a very big quetion. Its pretty sure that Indian Cricket is going to face a tough period atleast for few years.

I cant even imagine that India will get a player of Sachin's standards. No one will forget the days he defeated the world teams single-handedly. Kumble's determination, aggression, and variations in the bowling will be missed. Rahul Dravid's sound techniques and Ganguly's aggression and great timing will be missed. But for any team in the world cricket its quite common to lose few senior players and only the way they handle their lose will make the difference in their ranking. Aussies are doing good in building new teams and as all other Cricket Fans in India, I too hope India will come out of this tougher phase successfully and the next team will defeat the aussies in Australia in the next tour 2011. All the best team India.

Dialup in Linux-For Newbies

For new Linux users configuring their system for dialup net connection seems tougher if they are having the built in modem. The main reason is most software modems are based on Windows and they dont get detected in Linux. For that, corresponding drivers should be installed. googling will help in finding the corresponding drivers.

For example if your modem in WinXP is Modem-Agere Systems PCI Soft Modem(COM3), the driver agrsm can be used.

Before installing the driver be sure that the kernel headers are installed. The kernel names will be like
linux-headers-2.6.18-4
linux-headers-2.6.18-4-686
kernel-kbuild-2.6-18

The agrsm tar should downloaded from the site. Do the following steps
tar xzvf agrsm-***.tar.gz
cd agrsm
make
make install
The above steps will complete the driver installation. Then load the drivers
1) Next load the drivers
modprobe agrmodem
modprobe agrserial
which should announce creation of /dev/ttyAGS3

2) It is convient to create symbolic links, which dialer utilities will follow,to the real port /dev/ttyAGS3 .
ln -s /dev/ttyAGS3 /dev/ttySAGR
ln -s /dev/ttyAGS3 /dev/modem
Check with:
ls -l /dev/ttyAGS3 /dev/ttySAGR /dev/modem
whose output should include:
/dev/modem --> /dev/ttyAGS3
/dev/ttySAGR --> /dev/ttyAGS3

3) The first critical functial test is:
wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf
which searches through potential ports for modem responses.
A success will end with a section like:
--------
ttySAGR<*1>: Modem Identifier: ATI -- Agere SoftModem Version 2.1.40
ttySAGR<*1>: Speed 4800: AT -- OK
ttySAGR<*1>: Speed 9600: AT -- OK
ttySAGR<*1>: Speed 19200: AT -- OK
ttySAGR<*1>: Speed 38400: AT -- OK
ttySAGR<*1>: Speed 57600: AT -- OK
ttySAGR<*1>: Speed 115200: AT -- OK
ttySAGR<*1>: Max speed is 115200; This time i was more attracted by his words. He came to our college golden jubilee celebrations and attracted each and every student by his words.

India's former President started his address in tamil and mentioned his poem he read in the Parliament.

While mentioning the need for imagination he said Inventions and discoveries have emanated from creative minds that have been constantly working and imaging the outcome in the mind. With imaging and constant effort, all the forces of the universe work for that inspired mind, thereby leading to inventions or discoveries.

He said technology as one of the important factors to improve our economy. He compared the India's innovation index which is 23 with the countries ranking high and said india is ranked 48 in global competitiveness.

Dr.Abdul Kalam's words about India's profile in the year 2020 :

1. A Nation where the rural and urban divide has reduced to a thin line.
2. A Nation where there is an equitable distribution and adequate access to energy and quality water.
3. A Nation where agriculture, industry and service sector work together in symphony.
4. A Nation where education with value system is not denied to any meritorious candidates because of societal or economic discrimination.
5. A Nation which is the best destination for the most talented scholars, scientists, and investors.
6. A Nation where the best of health care is available to all.
7. A Nation where the governance is responsive, transparent and corruption free.
8. A Nation where poverty has been totally eradicated, illiteracy removed and crimes against women and children are absent and none in the society feels alienated.
9. A Nation that is prosperous, healthy, secure, peaceful and happy and continues with a sustainable growth path.
10. A Nation that is one of the best places to live in and is proud of its leadership.

He then mentioned 7 challenging research areas where we can focus on. They are increasing the efficiency of photovoltaic cells, nuclear power generation using thorium based reactors, proteomics-the study of all proteins expressed by the genome of a cell, HIV/AIDS vaccine, stem cell research, earth quake forecasting systems, finding a method to find the quantum of rainfall in a particular area for a particular cloud condition within a specified duration.

Then he addressed how our college should grow in the coming decades.

you can read the exact content of his addressfrom his website

Tecuthsav2008-a technical festival at TCE!

Our college,Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai is stepping in to its 50th year of Academic Excellence. Thanks to my seniors Subramani( special thanks man), Praveen, Senthil who encouraged me a lot during mock interviews. I really worked hard then and acquired TCS:-) . I worked with GDB before the session when my friend introduced it.This session added extra ideas about GDB..The valgrid demonstration was interesting as it pointed errors with memory management in the program with error line numbers.very cool tool..Next i attended a seminar on DBMS and Internet programming tools by Mr.Senthilkumaran,SpikeSource India Limited..He covered various FOSS DBMS tools like MySQL,PostgresSQL,small foot-print databases like SQLite and some informations on the products of SpikeSource..These sessions introduced some interesting tools and i need to work more on it..

See India2006 with me..!!!

India faced lot of important events in 2006. Some people in india supporting the treaty while others are opposing it. The supporters argued that India needs uranium for its energy needs and this treaty is the must for the Indian energy needs. Yeah I accept all these things,but India is the second largest nation in Thorium productions. We can very well use this thorium for the next hundred years and even beyond that for our energy needs. All we need to do is work on our fast breader reactors. In current technology we can meet our energy needs in 3 step process using thorium reactors and it needs uranium in the second step in the process. According to this treaty, we are supplied by US the large amount of uranium for the next 10-15 years. This will affect our investments and serious work in the thorium plants. We will become the permanent customers of Uranium to US. This treaty makes our civil nuclear plants under international study which is not a good sign for India’s security as we are doing research works for our defence in some of these plants.
The India-US deal will bring few benefits but impose high costs, including an inappropriate energy path, which cannot be measured within a purely nationalist matrix. It deserves to be scrapped. However, even more costs lie in what the deal does to the cause of global nuclear disarmament and peace. With what face can India now advocate global disarmament after being admitted to the “Atomic Apartheid” order by the US?
The Americans can dominate the world only by creating unequal alliances and thus eliminating the emergence of the rival. For the past more than half a century, India is one of the major states that is away from the US alliances. I always support the reservations for the welfare of the nation. For the development of the nation it is essential to develop people of every levels. If we started supporting the creamy layer alone, it will make a wide partition among the people based on the economy which is not good for any of us.
The strikes against this were due to their seniors who had created the wrong assumption among the students. They made them to think that they had lost their oppurtunitues to the lower value students by the reservations. In this issue we should think in a broader sense rather than thinking selfishly.

Industrial Developments

This year showed a good progress in IT industries. This year’s diary becomes one of the sources of sweet memories.I faced some ups and downs with good experience every time. This year introduced me the OpenSolaris through my senior Mr.AnanthShrinivas. Now I am working in opensolaris environment. I have to learn more in this and working for it. I got an oppurtunity to work with content management systems for my college. In this year we went kodaikkanal for industrial visits. Enjoyed with my friends there. Then I have to say about our symposium Cyber06. Our friends made this a grand success by their dedicated work in all committees. I worked in the paper presentation committee and our team did a good job. Though this year introduced me some technical things, I slipped a bit in my exams compared to my previous years. This may be due to my laziness in the exam halls to write the answers completely:). But I am happy with my results. Though this year bags many sweet memories ,I faced some bitter things towards the end of this year through an unknown friend. He used to mail me frequently without his name and saying some unwanted informations about me and my friend. I did a mistake by replying his mail and he started disturbing my peace in all means. Hello friend,don’t trouble me atleast in the coming year. They saved 7 gold medal points against the Thai brothers. Ratiwatana brothers even dont want to forget the way the Indian masters make the gold medals to their packets. Excellent lesson by the two greats. Great commitment by the 'IndianExpress'. But again they expressed their differences in the public.Their relationship has seen many ups and lows. Enjoyed a lot with them. Recently i heard from a friend that his friend wanted to talk with him for several hours even during the exams through the cell phone. I am having a doubt whether these persons know what a friendship means!! Do they want to refresh their friendship periodically( once in two seconds so that other can use the other second:) ) by saying "I am your friend" for several hours similar to the RSVP refreshing the soft states:). Yeah i accept that these friends are more possessive towards their friends and I praise them. But they should know that they are spoiling their times unnecessarily during their exams, project times. Dont you believe your friends. Dont you know that your friend is also preparing for the exams. Even the Indo-Pak problems are not discussed more than an hour :). Also using the cell phones continuously will affect the Blood Brain Barrier(BBB), a physiological mechanism that alters the permeability of blood capillaries so that some substances, such as certain drugs are prevented from entering the brain tissue while other substances are entered freely. There are some other physical disorders are also possible. Friends think atleast now and make your presence a valuable one to your friend and dont make them feel bad about you to others..meet you with my next "Drop"!!..bye

Day of Advice...

First day of the last month, my sister celebrated her 22nd birthday today. I thought of wishing her at 12.00 am..got up only at 8.then enrolled my belated wishes through phone.she expected my call from the early morning..In the afternoon, while i was driving my two-wheeler to hotel , I met with a minor road accident. That guy drove his vehicle assuming that he was driving in air. I too didnt notice him as i was busy with my cell messaging my friend in the Theatre. It was fortunate as i landed my foot in a correct place instead of going into their wheels..escaped with only small scratches in my left leg ..but it itself caused pain,loss of blood..again a good experience..as a consequence heard advice from my dad and mom..they used the chance very well :) ..went hospital, again advice from my doctor also..thus today was really a day of advice..:)..meet u with my next "Drop"..bye

Parliament to Duban..!!!

Yeah the defeat at Durban was a debacle. It made all Indians feel sad. But the way the opposition party MPs behaved in the Parliament on this issue was really a painful. They questioned BCCI President Mr.Sarath Powar in the question hour about India's failure in Durban. Is it necessary to discuss this in the question hour??. I am having a sudden doubt whether these members know the Nation's demands and the needs or just simply filling the seats of the Parliament. Dont they remember that Mr.Powar is also our union Agricultural Minister. In most part of the country, farmers are suffering a lot and suicides are becoming common in their families. Why dont they ask questions about their welfare. They should try to understand their responsibilities. Do they really worrying about India's pride or just thinking about the BCCI's wealth and richness. They should atleast remember that they are wasting the moneys of the tax payers (I dont know whether these MPs are paying their tax properly :) ..). BusyBox has been written with size-optimization and limited resources in mind both to produce small binaries and to reduce run-time memory usage. We are a group of six members working on this. I like this team very much. All are good team workers.
